AMERICAN PIE, which looks to have taken a page or two
out of ANIMAL HOUSE, will be this year's THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY film, even though they're not too similar. The really good teencomedies are ones like PIE and ELECTION, not crap like SHE'S ALL THAT and NEVER BEEN KISSED. Those films all followed
the same formula with all the stereotypes. AMERICAN
PIE was something different. This should be the dessert
after every meal.
Disc
The features department only gets 3 stars. Although there are alot of extras, most are just plain useless. Who is ever going to use the soundtrack, quotes, or Universal showcase? Nobody. Those could have totally been left off. Aside from the featurette, which is the best feature, the commentary and outtakes are the only extras that aren't standard. Universal should have put some deleted scenes or something. Compared to their other C.E.'s, this one is lacking in features. The film puts alot of backing in the songs. Every hip rock group has their song playing in the movie and the audio makes good use of it. It'll sound like you're throwing a party after the prom. The video is clear as a bell, with no signs of dust, except at the very end of the picture.
Overall
Don't buy this for the features, as most are pretty flat. Buy it for its detailed, and often correct presentation of '90s style high school. Plenty of laughs make this an easy recommendation.
