Day 7 Critical Writing
Paragraph
1- Even though trains on average move slower than trucks, they can
carry a lot more wheat for less cost of fuel. So over all you can get
more wheat to the port to be shipped for less fuel costs. Another
advantage for using trains is that when you open a train station in the
area to ship your wheat, you can create more jobs for the surrounding
people. Another benefit to shipping your product with a train is that
trains are less subject to weather conditions and accidents, so your
delivery rate will have a higher percentage of being on time to the
port.
Paragraph 2- By shorting the travel route you will
use less fuel in moving the wheat from place to place. Thus, with fuel
costs reduced you can charge less for your bread which could bring you
back in range with the Canadians. Reducing toll charges would work the
same way. Not having to pay tolls gives you that much extra money to
keep or use in reducing the cost of your bread. Some other things you
can do to reduce your shipping costs would be to reduce the shipping
time. This could be to use trains to ship your wheat to a port
in California where you then ship directly to China via boat.
Day 14 Critical Writing
Paragraph
1- I feel that the park managers
should support the electric railroad in
Washington. The the most important point of improvement would be
the
lack of cars and other automobiles. This would be the best
because there would be
no pollution to damage the natural environment. Accedent
potential would also decrease because there is no traffic and people
can't speed. People would also be able to see more of
the park during their visit because they can spend more
time exploring the area instead of waiting behind a line of cars just
to enter the park. The electric railroad would also probably be
cheaper and get up and running faster than spending all that time and
money to build the extra roads and the parking lots. In the effort to add more parking space to the park, you would have to close the roads down further slowing down the flow of cars. If you went
with the cars addition, you would have to close down the road into the
park until it is complete, decreasing the rate of tourist visits and
profit. Finally the electric railroad is silent so it wont scare the
animals.
Paragraph
2- The efficiency of the electric
railroad would be very high. It
can get people from one location to another very quickly and can do it
numerous times more faster and safeer than standard cars. The
train could also take more people from one
location to another in the time it takes for twice the people to drive
to that certain location. The new roads and the new parking lots
would be efficient at the beginning because the same old crowd would
come to the park, leaving lots of extra room. Some people are
pushed away from Zion National Park by the crowds and waits, but word
would spread of the new parking lot and the
new system would bring more people in, just crowding the park up
again. The electric train could take the people places that
cannot be reached by car, increasing the interest of all people to see
new rock formations or plants. In fact you could elevate the
train over the park kinda like a monorail in Disney Land. The parking
lots and road
improvements would improve the visitors experience because of the
increased efficiency of people getting into the park and people would
feel like they are on their own schedules, no the schedule of the
park. The electric railroad plan would decrease pollution in
the park because no gas is being burned and nothing is being shot into
the air. The car plan would bring in more cars, increasing the
pollution because more gas is being burned and left in the air by the
cars exhaust. I would chose the electric railroad because of all
the reasons that I presented above. It might be expensive in the
beginning but eventually it would pay off with increased enjoyment from
people and the animals.
