Mythology:

Most ancient cultures knew stories about heroes, monsters, battles, gods, catastrophic events, etc. with which they tried to explain their existence, natural events, and happenings in their daily life.
This stories are called "mythology" and they show us the "soul" of a people, the culture, religion, character, and way of thinking of a people are reflected by their mythology; this is what makes mythology so interesting.
Unfortunately many mythologies have been lost when time progressed, virtually nothing is known about Slavonic mythology except some of the names of their gods, the Finns only have the Kalevala, and the ancient mythologies of the countries in the Middle East have mostly been lost as well.
Fortunately a lot of Germanic mythology has been preserved by researchers who travelled the lands to collect ancient folkstories that they wrote down, two of the results of this effort are the Poetic Edda and the Snorra Edda.
In the Middle Ages more stories were written down in the form of songs, poems, and other works, because of the work of this Medieval writers a very rich and ancient culture has been preserved for future generations; without this people there would have been no Edda, no beautiful stories to read about heroes and monsters, impossible loves and epic battles, no "Ring des Nibelungen", no understanding of our modern traditions, it would have left a gap in our history books, the history, thoughts, experiences, and dreams of our ancestors would have been lost forever; we must be very grateful to this unknown writers.

Germanic mythology is such a big topic that an entire site could be written about it, therefor I have decided not to make a thorough description of it on this site because you can already read much of the Germanic mythology in the Edda's, however, if I touch a mythological subject on this site I will briefly explain its contents.
For more information I advise you to visit some of the mythology sites on my link pages and you can also ask questions about mythology on the Reginheim forum, furthermore, I do have written down some of the lesser known Germanic legends that you can find in the site menu.
