There is a new toy awaiting travelers at the Dallas-Fort
Worth Airport -- a walk-up Internet access kiosk.
No password is required to log on and most likely you can retrieve e-mail at the kiosk as it is designed to work with about 90% of all e-mail systems available today. The world wide web, America Online or Compuserve is only a few clicks and taps via a touch pad mouse and a keyboard. Armed with CyberPatrol software to screen off undesirable web sites such as those featuring pornography from the public view, the heart of the system contains a Gateway 200 Pentium computer and even has a phone jack for laptop computer use. Right now, during the free trail period, the ten terminals at Dallas-Ft Worth Airport attracts about 50 users a day with an average usage period of 12 minutes. In the future when the service becomes standardized, people are expected to pay about $5 per 10 minutes using their credit cards. Currently, these terminals are installed by GTE at the Anaheim Convention Center, the San Diego Hyatt, the Honolulu Airport, and Dallas-Fort Worth International. Other locations are under consideration. |
