DataMatters, a UK Internet Service Provider (ISP) is setting up web pages
at their site (http://datamatters.co.uk) to allow organ donors to register
online. Interested donors can fill in their name, address and e-mail address.
The program "New Heart - New Start" set of web pages received sponsorship from an insurance company. The idea started when Nigel Taylor, a staffer at DataMatters had a neighbor who had a heart transplant in 1990. Nigel was able to how the operation had transformed his neighbor's life and it was then that Nigel decided that there is a need for an easy way to get potential donors to register online.
As far as DataMatters is concern, such a program is also good for business, since it can be seen as a way to differentiate the company form its competitors. The DataMatters service, is aimed at serving the local community by providing services such as online shopping and tourist information. The ISP also claims to have the first fully interactive insurance system in the UK.
