One fine day in August 2005, I did some bodypainting modeling for fun for a painting company. They wanted someone with a "good" physique for a theme called "Atmosphere". Strangely, they considered my physique good.
It was very fun. Kids came over and looked at me in amazement. Some said "hey, look, Mama, see that statue there" or "that stature can move". I love kids. Many took pictures of me.
But it was very tiring. We had to be still like a statue for 45 minute segments, with a break of about 15 mins. We did 4 segments which is a total of 3 solid hours. I never thought being so still for a long time could be that hard. It was much harder than the 10 km run which I were to take part the following day.
I had some prior training in keeping still like a statue in 1987 when I was the Commando Guard of Honor for Singapore President Wee Kim Wee on National Day. But that wasn't as long as 3 hours.
My eyes hurt. It was hard not to blink. Sometimes, tears flowed, not because I was sad or crying, but simply because my eyes had been open for too long. Yeah, so I became like a crying statue! My feet hurt too. I kept wondering how was I going to finish the 10 km run the very next day.
All in all, it was fun. I learn to appreciate the street performers I had seen at San Francisco and elsewhere who remained still for really long time. They did that for a living. And most probably, they had to do that almost everyday. Hats off to them!
But now, I needed a good night's sleep. I would run a 10 km race early next morning. After being a stature for so long, could I run 10 km? To find out, read my first barefoot race. |
