History of Raweke
Our first Griffon was purchased in 1968 from the third litter Mollie Grocott of the famous Moerangi Kennels in New Zealand ever bred and he was from Seafield Sherry X Gaystock le Bruit Sec (Imp UK), a little dog called Moerangi Maigret and from then on the family and I were hooked and over the next few years I was lucky enough to show for Mollie some good quality dogs bred from the Gaystock, Skibbereen, Starbeck, Mountwhisle, Dozmare bloodlines and then in 1977 I decided to register my prefix Raweke in Maori means small dog and for the next 30 years bred in conjunction with Moerangi. Ed and I moved from New Zealand to Queensland (Australia) in November 1997 bringing 2 Griffons with us Ch Beagriff Hotshot and Ch Raweke Alice n Wonderland, Hansel and Gretel had enough points but had to get a challenge each after 12 months of age to be given NZ Championship Status and they joined the team in Feb 1998. They were shown in and around Brisbane and Hansel did a lot of Group and In Show winning and Alice and Gretel took turns in being award the bitch challenge. We mated both Alice and Gretel to Steven Seymours Ch Beagriff Galliard, unfortunately Alice missed and Gretel produced a dog and a bitch the bitch Miss Mufitt went to South Africa and the dog became Aust/NZ Ch Raweke Tommy Tucker. A year later we repeated the mating with Gretel and she produced 2 smooth pups 1 of each sex, the dog was sold as a pet and the bitch was Ch Raweke Maid Marion. The gene pool was very limited as we did not want to bring Black or Black and Tan into our line we had clear Red coats and that is how we wanted to keep them. Our next Griffon was Ravenspur Bopeep from Beagriff Jack flash and Moerangi Savannah, who was line bred back to Hansel and he and Bopeep produced a really great type of Griffon for us. We then added to our Kennels Ch Nouveau Dominique, Ch Nouveau Delinquent, Ch Nouveau Dominatrix, Nouveau Demon Rouge and Flaming Red-Heart of Blayne all line bred back to the New Zealands famous Moerangi Kennels. We are still endeavouring to breed the same thick set stocky Griffons with rich red coats, large heads and attitude plus And in the early 90s introduced the Beagriff lines which also went back into the Moerangi bloodlines into my breeding programme and thanks to Mollie Grocott and Jill Seymour I am where I am to day Breeding excellent type and quality We moved to Queensland 10 years ago and continued our Breeding Showing and Judging. It has not been an easy experience and in a lot times very frustrating and heart breaking but they are a fascinating breed and when once you have had the pleasure of owning one you always have to have 2 and then 3. And on it goes.
