Roy Stanley Cup Story

He might understand the business side of the game as well anyone, but he hasn't forgotten that the best aspect of hockey is feeling the ice beneath your feet. The impish, youthful side of Roy hasn't been lost through almost two decades in the NHL.
To offer insight into Roy's demeanor, Lacroix, who was the goalie's agent years ago, tells the story of Roy taking apart the Stanley Cup after the Canadiens won in 1993. Seeing the Cup's keeper distracted by his wife and a few friends, Roy looked at Lacroix and said, "Let's get a special look."
He grabbed the cup and whisked it off to his garage.
"He took a screwdriver and unscrewed the bottom," Lacroix says. "He just wanted to see what was inside. To him, that was a very big deal. He was like a kid in a candy store." Roy has to know everything about the game--even what's scrawled in the Stanley Cup's underbelly.
