Currents is published by the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, in cooperation with Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and Wartburg Theological Seminary. I have served as its editor since the second issue of the journal, in 1974. Norma Cook Everist represents Wartburg Theological Seminary as Associate Editor. Peggy B. Eldredge is Assistant Editor and in that capacity does copy editing, preparation of camera-ready copy, and managing of the subscription list ([email protected]).
Currents appears six times a year, in eighty-page issues that contain six or seven essays, twenty or more book reviews, and exegetical and homiletical resources for every Sunday and major festival in the church year. The latter section is entitled Preaching Helps and is edited by Robert H. Smith of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Those who would like to do exegetical studies or write pastoral reflections for this section should contact the editor of this section: Robert H. Smith, Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, Berkeley, California.
Book Reviews are edited by Edgar Krentz (New Testament; [email protected]), Ralph W. Klein (Old Testament; [email protected]), Craig L. Nessan (history, theology, and ethics; [email protected]), and Kathleen Billman (ministry; [email protected]). Readers who would like to volunteer to do book reviews should contact the appropriate editor.
Currents aims to provide resources for mission, ministry, and theological growth for pastors, diaconal ministers, associates in ministry, and other church leaders. The usual editorial practice is to include a variety of topics in each issue although Currents does occasionally focus on a single theme. It asks writers to write clearly and without polemic, explaining technical terms and keeping footnotes to a minimum. Foreign language quotations should be avoided wherever possible; if they are necessary, they should be followed by a parenthesis giving the English translation. In general, writers should follow the Chicago Manual of Style or The SBL Handbook of Style and use inclusive language. The following two footnotes may serve as a guide:
1O. E. Alana, "Reconsidering the poor by Gospel Norms," AFER 32 (August, 1990), 193-194.
2Joseph Sittler, The Doctrine of the Word (Philadelphia: Muhlenberg Press, 1948), 23.
Manuscripts should be sent to Ralph W. Klein, 1100 E. 55th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60615. Please double space the manuscript and include a computer diskette with it (this saves a great deal of money in typesetting and also helps to avoid typographical errors). To inquire about the suitability of a given topic, contact the editor by e-mail ([email protected]) or call 773-256-0695.
