Letter from Arthur & Silvia Howard-Scotoni              back / zurück

The sketches on this CD ROM were found amongst the effects of Martha Scotoni-Eichrmüller, wife of the architect Fritz Scotoni.

We were very much impressed by the high quality of the draughtsmanship, and in 1966 made repro photos of the entire lot. A few of the photocopies still hang on the walls of our home and look very much like etchings.

In the course of the years the films have been lost, and now, with the newer computer technology which is available to us, we decided to digitize the lot and put them onto CD ROM.

The files are in both JPEG and PNG formats, and can be read by most computer photo programs. Our only manipulation of them was to remove some of the gray background caused by 100 years of yellowing of the paper. We have no objection to these files being further manipulated, ie. copied, layered, montaged, themes excerpted, etc. as long as any and all themes which are used be properly, attributed to Fritz Scotoni. We have made this CD to keep ative the early work of an excellent potential artist who turned his talents to innovative architectural design and we hope that users of this CD will respect this goal.

The sketches were scanned with a Canon Lide scanner at 400 dpi, saved in JPEG format using Arc soft Photo Studio, and further worked up into PNG and an improved JPEG format with Photoshop Elements.

The work was done on a Macintosh computer and the CD burn was made with the Roxio Titanium 5 program set to ISO 9660 file format and Joliet (MS DOS + Windows). This preserves the long file names (31 characters) on the CD for use under Windows 95, 98, 2000 ME, and Windows NT 4.0, while also being completely compatible with older versions of DOS and Windows. ISO 9660 complient Systems such as MS-DOS, Unix, Linux, or Mac OS will see only the ISO 9660 file system (8.3 characters).

We hope you will enjoy these 100 year old sketches as much as we have and that they might encourage young relatives of Fritz Scotoni both close and distant to develop those artistic talents which might lie dormant in themselves.

Feel free to download anything you like from the website.

For those who would like to have a copy of this CD, I can provide one for Sfr. 30 plus shipping to cover my expenses.
