Supertots was begun in March 2002 to help develop some of our younger gymnasts into competitive gymnasts. As R. A. C. Gymnastics has grown, a few of our preschool gymnasts have advanced past the limitations of the preschool classes... in fact they have passed by many of the limitations of our older classes. Gymnasts at their level who are older would generally be promoted into a two hour preTeam or Training Team class, however we felt that at 4 and 5 years old, the pressure of these classes would be detrimental to their progress. The Supertot Class was then developed to help these young stars progress while keeping it fun and challenging. To be a Supertot, the gymnast must be at least 4 years old and under 6 years (the age which they are able to compete in sanctioned competitions), have all of their basic skills, be enrolled in at least one other class each week, have a great love for gymnastics, continue progressing in their skills while they are in the class, and most importantly, want to compete. The class at this time is limited to 5 gymnast to allow them personalized attention and while there is a lot of hard work involved we also have a lot of fun and rewards.
At this time the class consists of four gymnasts (Emily, Hannah, Kayla, and Kylie) who, although they range from Level B through Level 2, are concentrating on the skills they will need as Level 4 gymnasts. These four are a joy to teach, as they get their skills so quickly and they always have fun (alright, sometimes they have too much fun!) while they are in class. One impressive example is when three of the gymnast who were in class one week were introduced to backbend kickovers, and by the next week all could perform the skill without help... and they have not lost this skill as we have progressed on to harder tricks. Having been coached by Steffany for so long (over half of their lives for some) they understand what is expected of them as they are on their way to becoming superstars. We look forward to see how these gymnasts progress as they grow up into competitive gymnasts.
