Eorl the Young
TA 2485 - 2545
Eorl, perhaps the most well known of the Rohirrim Kings, was only 16 when he took the crown. He recived it under rather peculular cercimstances. His father Leod was killed when he attempted to tame a wild horse, Felarof. Eorl hunted down Felarof for many days. When he came upon the horse he shouted those famous words "Come hither, mansbane, and get a new name!" To the supprise of those about, Felarof came meekly up and alowed himself to be mounted. Felarof became the father of the Mearas, and until the horse Shadowfax only the kings of the mark were alowed to ride them.

In TA 2510 on the 25th of March, a rider from Gondor named Borondir came with an ergent message from the Steward Cirion- Gondor had been invaded by wildmen of the north. Eorl summened up the entire host of the Eotheod from their homes near the source of the Anduin, and made taht historic ride to the Field of Celebrant. Their arrival caught the wildmen by supprise even as they were about to overwhelm the armies of Gondor, and the enemy was annihilated.
In return for their service, Cirion grated to the Eotheod the land perviosly called Calenardhon. Not only a generous reward but a tactical plan- for the Eotheod could keep the northen territories of Gondor safe from attack.

Eorl was beloved by his people, and was valliant and wise in battle. His reign was cut short by his death in the Battle of the Wold.

Migration and Battle of Celebrant
According to the UT, C&E, Borondir arrives at the twenty fifth of Sulime (March). On the sixth day of Viresse (April, 11 days later), Eorl assembles an eohere of appx. 7300-7500 riders. Some 200-400 are left to guard the dwellings in the Carrock vales. They arrive at the Undeeps on the fifteenth of Viresse, having covered appx. 600 (375) miles (as the ravens fly) in 9 days (66 miles a day).
According to the UT, when Eorl's eohere came upon the orcs (knowns as the Balcoth), "on their right the Anduin lay near, but they had almost passed it's great eastward loop, and the Undeeps were in sight". For the host to have been traveling with the river on their right, then they must have made their way on the left bank. However, this would place them on the wrong side of the river - the trapped Northern army of Gondor had been driven north over the Limliht, and was stuck on in that same fifth loop (the "great eastward loop"). This army had just suffered defete from one enemy force pushing them over the Limliht and cutting off their retreat southwards. At this point, in LotR Appedix A, a second force of Orcs (Balcoth) came from the west and pushed them into the fifth loop.To reach the Balcoth, Rohan would have to somehow backtrack north and cross somewhere above the fifth loop of the Anduin. No where is such a crossing mentioned. Somehow the eohere got across, veered to the west, and came riding southeast on the rear of the Balcoth forces. The result was to funnel the Balcoth back over the Limliht which they had so recently won. Both the UT and the Appendix A state that the Balcoth were hit on the direct rear, yet the Appendix A also states that the eohere rode from the north. It is quite possible that this is a general statement of "northwards" rather than from direct north - a charge from directly north would have placed the eohere on the left flank of the Balcoth, rather than in their rear, which both texts agree on. In either case, the victory of Eorl was decisive:  the retreating second Balcoth host swarmed the ranks of the first host that had driven the Northern Army over the Limliht (this host, according to the Appendix, was composed of Wild Men from the Brown Lands). These forces panicked, and were cut down.
Later in the same year, the land of the Calenardhon was given to the Eotheod as an independent realm. More on the Oath of Cirion and Eorl can be found in the Unfinished Tales, part III, chapter II,
Cirion and Eorl.

TA 2510
Foundation of Aldburg
The Aldburg was the first royal residence in the Mark, probably at first a fortified camp, located in the Folde (King's Land) some several miles east of the site of Meduseld. This later became a grand estate, and was the family residence of Eomer before his coronation, when it once again became a royal estate.
