  57. D, Nickoson, John, Ann Arbor, 19, DLB: 1848 Northfield, Mich., Resources in the Bentley Historical Library includes a journal and thirty-three letters (Feb.-June, 1865) written to his wife. In 1862. In 1865 he was in Company F, 10th Michigan Cavalry, stationed near Knoxville, Tenn., for picket, patrol and guard duty. There are vivid accounts of the country he traveled through in reaching Knoxville and of the people he saw; items about camp life and its fun, about food and food pedlars with their poisoned pies; the celebrations at the fall of Richmond and the surrender of Lee; and his reactions to the assassination of Lincoln. However, he was sick much of the time and a great part of his journal and letters is devoted to discussing his illnesses and their remedies. Page
