The 1st Michigan Lancers and the 2nd Michigan Volunteer Infantry have connections in the war. Rumours say that the 1st Michigan Lancers Recruiting officers went to Upper Canada to enlist men for that regiment. According to some sources they were quite successfull in this effort. The Regiment was formed and almost immediately disbanded. The State thinking that the age of the Lancers had passed and the men could be better used as Infantryman.
It is unclear if the members of the Lancers were discharged or transferred to other regiments. It is rumour that they were discharged.
Some name appear on the 2nd Michigan Volunteer Infantry Rosters and even tho the Regiment never went to war some graves in National Cemetary and others state that there are Soldiers Buried under the name of 1st Michigan Lancers.
It would be of great usefullness and interest to see any documentations on this Regiment. If you have any I would love a copy of them.
