CD Review for NOFX- Pump Up The Valuum
You have no idea how long I had been waiting for this CD. Oh god so many years and buying CDs for just one new song. Now, 14 new songs...on an entire new NOFX album. I was pretty pumped. Thank the lord(who I don't believe in) that they payed off my waiting with an amazing and hilarious album. My friend from work described it best as "Remember when you first heard punk and started listening to it because it was new and amazing, this brings me back to those days. Fuck it is a wicked CD." I couldn't agree more. From start to end there are no let downs, and almost every song is a new kind of NOFX style; fast, slow, melodic, or funny as hell. Actually when I was reading the lyrics in bed one night at around 2am, I listened to Clams Have Feelings Too and I laughed my ass off and woke up my family. That was fun. I'm sure everyone reading this has already heard a NOFX CD because...well...they're NOFX. The vocals are the same as always, a flat punkish, snotty quality that we have all grown to love. The guitars sound a lot like S&M Airlines, which I like. For those who haven't heard S & M Airlines cause it's old and they think it sucks, you're wrong, and if you like this you'll like S&M. Some lyrics are kind of emotional, like Dinosaurs Will Die (my favorite song on the album) which explains how the music industry is going downhill and it will soon implode by itself and cease to exist, which I thought was really cool cause hate that trendy shit that everyone else seems to love...and I just can't understand them. Anyway, I would suggest this album to anyone who likes punk at all, and you won't be disappointed. I'm sure everyone will appreciate the NOFX Theme Song too, it's pretty funny, and hopefully they'll play it at the Warped Tour.
I'll give this CD 90/100 because I think I should listen to it some more, and it is still so high because it's NOFX...I mean, c'mon. Best Songs(Dinosaurs Will Die, Pharmacists Daughter, and Thank God It's Monday) Review By Dave Norman |

CD Review for NOFX- Pump Up The Valuum
Every punk fan knows who NOFX are and most real fans like them or at least respect their inflluence not only on punk but also on music as it is today. Now with that all said I am please to inform you that NOFX lived up to their fame and put together yet another great CD. NOFX has the ability to combine humour and a serious message at the same time. This CD is both a great listen and great read; I think that the lyrics outshine the music and various melodies that they can play. I think that NOFX is one of the smartest bands today and have a deliberate immature image to try to hide their serious messages. I saw them at the Warped Tour in Barrie and on stage I couldn't fiqure out if they were serious, joking or just drunk (I think a bit of each).. Now I am not a NOFX expert so I can't really compare to most of their past CDs (dave pretty much said it all). I can say that this CD has no let downs and is a definite buy for any punk fan even if you haven't been a huge NOFX fan in the past you should give this CD a chance. As you can see I don't have much to say and honestly I doubt many are even reading this after reading Dave's essay (it's actually longer than some essays i've seen him do). If you haven't read Dave's piece I suggest you do so. I am now just filling up space with meaningless words blah blah blah blah blah hopefully dave won't read this and neither will you blah blah actually I would like to take this opportunity to say that Millincolin was the best big band at Warped Tour, The Suicide Machines and Gob were good, NOFX and MXPX were decent and of course Reset was by far the best side-stage band and had the best crowd and was the most intense by far. Reset showed everyone what they were all about, it was my third time seeing them in the past month. Anyway I was very impressed with this CD and it lived up to all of my expectations. NOFX combined humour and real messages as always. I give this CD a 89 out of 100. Reviewed By Mike Case |
