CD Review for Horace Pinker- Copper Regret (E.P.)
Although I didn't actually think it was possible for a Horace Pinker CD to surpass Pop Culture Failure, Copper Regret managed to do so with a mere five songs. Directly on the Horace Pinker website, www.horacepinker.com Scott explains how this CD took Pop Culture Failure to the next level...he was right. This CD is a real smart and intuitive E.P. that can't be described, so just go buy it.
This CD gets 82/100 only because it has just five songs. Best Songs(South Stanley Place, Carnival Nostalgia) Review By Dave Norman
CD Review for Horace Pinker- Pop Culture Failure Yes, I finally got my copy of this incredible CD. After looking for it for 2 months, ordering it from HMV, and Fastmusic, I saw it in a small store in Orillia (Canada) and I pretty much shit my pants. Yet, it was totally worth the wait. The minute I popped this sucker into my CD player I was blown away from the amount of talent these guys have. It seemed no one knew who they were around here except me (I heard Suppose To on my Punk Ass Generosity Comp and I thought it was wicked) These guys are obviously punk, but their intricate guitars make it seem like so much more, more complex even, and it really boosts the quality of their music. Scott Eastman has an amazing voice, it doesn't sound like anyone I've ever heard, and it's a good change. He has matured since the last record, because I felt he used to sing off key and I didn't like listening to him. But now he sounds so original, and his voice just seems to soar. The lyrics are so well written...I can't even begin to expain how deep they go. I felt really good about Pop Culture Failure after reading the lyric booklet because they seemed to get to me...I can't explain it...just go buy the damn CD and support this amazing band.
I gotta give this 83/100, it's got everything from slow stuff to what seems like hardcore. Best Songs(Second Best, Nothing At All, Refined, and Suppose To...and Seasonal...dammit that's almost half the CD!!!) Review by Dave Norman |

CD Review for Horace Pinker- Copper Regret (E.P.)
Since this is a short CD I am going to write a short review. This CD only has five songs but is still incredible. If this was a full album it could one of the best CDs I have ever heard. Even though it is short it is definitely worth buying and gives me a great deal of anticipation for the next release from Horace Pinker. Horace Pinker kept the winning formula when they wrote these songs. Everything works perfectly together to produce a completely unique sound. Most people either love their sound like me and Dave or hate it and think it is a little too slow like Daves younger brother. If you like the mp3s then you will love the CD because their sound is consistent.
This CD earns a solid 84 out of 100. It would have gotten much higher if it was longer (probably a 91 or so). This CD is still worth the money but you should get the previous full-length album Pop Culture Failure first.
CD Review for Horace Pinker- Pop Culture Failure This is the smartest and most well done CD that I have reviewed to date. The guitars are absolutely incredible and you can see the time and thought that was put into every song. The guitars are intricate and feed off each other without overpowering the listener. You have to listen to this CD with headphones to get the full effect although it is quite evident even in your car. What I think makes Horace Pinker so original besides the guitars is the lead vocals. I have never heard a voice like this. I can't even describe his voice; you have to listen to the mp3's and then you will understand. I love the lyrics; they are really well written and true. Horace Pinker also has a different tempo than most other punk bands. They are slower but not soft, and this combined with the amazing guitars is a killer combo. What else can I say? I love this CD! It was so well put together and you have to respect the effort made in every category. Listen to the mp3's and if you like the song you will love the CD. Horace Pinker is unique, smart, and kicks ass!
I give this CD a 96 out of 100. I love this CD and it is so deep that I am sure it will stay as one of my favourites. I would have given it a higher rating but it can't quite compare to Reset-No Limits (99) and Bigwig-Stay Asleep (100). Review by Mike Case |
