CD Review for Cooter/Slick Shoes Split

I was excited when Dave showed me the new Cooter CD split.  I've been anxiously waiting for some new songs since Looking Up.  I was not disappointed.  I was extremely stoked when I heard the lead vocals and how they have evolved and now sounds a lot like the lead vocals of Horace Pinker.  As usual every song is well done.  It is definitely worth buying this CD just for the Cooter songs.  Also the Slick Shoes songs aren't too bad.  They pale in comparison to Cooter but are still worth listening to.  I am going keep this review short because there is only half the Cooter songs and because I am lazy and have about 11 more reviews to do.
I give this CD a 85 out of 100 because the Cooter songs are really good but there are only four of them.

CD Review for Cooter- Looking Up

This is an energetic, upbeat, driving, well thought out and well done album.  From beginning to end there is no let downs and it is impossible to stop listening once you start, it's even more painful to pull this one out of your CD player.  It is almost impossible for you to listen to this CD while sitting down because you will be too busy jumping around or playing air guitar.  If you like the mp3's of this band then you'll love the album.  Every aspect of their music goes beyond expectations, their guitars are more than just a catchy chord, they have a good bass line in the background, solid drums, good intros and some of the most powerful and well written lyrics that I have heard in a while.  They also throw in some background singing to change things up a bit which works really well.  The only thing I think that could have made this record better would have been if they mixed up some of the tempos and had some slow bits build up to harder parts, but other than that there was absolutely nothing else I would change.  I was supposed to have been reviewing a few CDs all at the same time but I spent so much time listening to this one that I was forced to put it away.  If you buy this CD I guarantee that you will never regret it, and look upon that decision as one of the best you have ever made.

I give this CD a 92 out of 100, one of the highest rankings I'm willing to give! This CD is a must buy for any punk fan.

CD Review for Cooter/Slick Shoes Split

Finally, new Cooter!  I was pretty hyped for this CD and I was not disappointed in the least.  Well, actually there are only 3 new Cooter songs because Pin The Tail On The Donkey is on Looking Up, so I guess that isn't too good.  Anyway, the singer's voice has changed, but for the better.  It seems higher and it also floats as he can carry it for long periods of time and still make it sound amazing.  They have definately improved on their sound, so I just gotta say if you like Cooter, get this.  If you didn't like Looking Up, at least listen to the MP3s.  Uhhh...did the Unwritten Law singer go to Slick Shoes or something, because they sound so similar it's scary.  Their songs are good but they have one flaw, the singer is way too loud compared to the rest of the music.  It really drowns everything out, not that he has a bad voice or anything, but it is just too loud.  Yeah, so I think this was worth my 12 bucks.

I gotta give this 85/100 because Cooter is amazing, but they only have 3 new songs on this.

CD Review for Cooter- Looking Up

First off, youve probably never heard of these guys, and if you have youve only heard Mrs. Brown Youve Got A Lovely Daughter, which isnt a really good song.  This album is nothing like that song which is a good thing.  I had heard the Looking Up mp3 from the Fastmusic site, and I thought Id give it a chance.  Boy was I rewarded!  This CD blew me away the first time I heard it, although it doesnt get well into good songs until track 7.  Even so, this CD is a complete pop-punk album which blends styles of MxPx and Ataris into one, and it sounds damn good.  The coolest thing about this album is the way the singer uses amazing melodies during the vocals that will have you singing along in no time.  This is presented in songs like Underrated, Pivot, Something For Everyone and Sleeptight.  I also enjoy how the bass lines are very audible during the CD and makes it easy to pick out, and it goes very good with the two guitarists in the band.  The lyrical content is above average as they are very insightful, and the choruses are catchy as hell.  I feel there is a sub par song on the album, and that is Full House, which is also located on the Serial Killer comp.  Maybe its just because Ive heard it so many times.

Anyway, I would recommend this CD to just about any punk fan, and Ill have to give it 86/100
