| CD Review for Propagandhi- Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes Yes, Chris from Propagandhi said it best, "PREPARE TO BE SONICALLY ASSAULTED!!!" It may have taken close to five years, but these boys have managed to produce one of the greatest cds I have ever heard. Intertwining hardcore, melodic and speed metal genres into this cd with incredible lyrics and an overall great feel, this cd is untouchable in its own respect. Actually just listening to it and holding it makes me orga...uhhh feel really warm inside. Seriously though, this cd is absolutly incredible. As you all should know by now, John left to play with The Weakerthans and Propagandhi acquired Tod The Rod from the broken up Canadian band I-Spy, so he now plays bass and sings about 4-5 songs on this album. He seems to be the addition that pushed the band farther toward hardcore than on previous albums. His voice is real raspy and may take some getting used to, but I enjoy it...not as much as Chris' voice (which is damn amazing) but it adds a new dimension to this band. I don't know what else to say but get this freaking album and hear one of the best punk bands, "...rocking harder and faster than ever...". Thankyou Propagandhi for producing an absolutly stunning and inspiring album, you guys rock!!! This gets a well-deserved 98/100, buy this already!!! Best Songs(Fuck The Border, With Friends Like These Who The Fuck Needs Cointelpro, Purina Hall Of Fame) Review by Dave Norman CD Review for Propagandhi- Less Talk More Rock I first heard Propagandhi on Fat Wreck Chords' Survival of the Fattest, with the song And You Thought The Nation States Were A Bad Idea. At first I didn't like them too much cause I liked stuff along the lines of NOFX, Millencolin and Pennywise. Finally I tried making out the lyrics and I was pleasantly surprised that these guys sung about some cool stuff. I then downloaded Apparently I'm A PC Fascist and Less Talk More Rock. I listened to them and was instantly hypnotised and got onto more sites and downloaded the whole CD. The next day I ordered it from HMV and I have been a loyal fan ever since. This CD really shows Propagandhi's improvement and maturity over the previous album. The lyrics seem better and more convincing, the guitars are more melodic and the singing has improved-well, not improved, it really just changed because I like Chris' voice no matter how he sings because it always sounds cool. But on this it is less scratchy and more melodic too. This CD has better songs than How To Clean Everything but it is less consistent. Rio De San Atlanta-Manitoba, Anchorless and Gifts are not the style I was used to from Propagandhi. They don't suck but on How To Clean Everything there wasn't one bad or sub par song. I would still suggest this CD cause it really kicks ass. I've listened to it so many times and I never get bored of it. I gotta give this 95/100 because it is damn amazing Best Songs(Apparently I'm A PC Fascist (Because I Care About Both Human And Non-Human Animals), Less Talk-More Rock, ...And We Thought The Nation States Were A Bad Idea and I Was A Pre-teen McCarthyist) Review by Dave Norman CD Review for Propagandhi- How To Clean Everything Standing next to my favorite band, Bigwig, is Propagandhi, a Canadian Punk Rock band that promotes awareness, and thats it. These guys can change the way you view specific issues, like homophobes, meat-eating, war, religion, governments and feminism. According to Jord(the drummer) their lyrics take precedence over the music, but believe me, the music does not suffer in the slightest. Hard, aggressive and fast guitars combined with Johns catchy bass lines make the musical side of the Propagandhi damn cool. The lead singer Chris has a really original voice, real raspy with lots of sarcasm and f-words, which I dig a lot. The lyrics are real funny, but at the same time they act as real eye-openers. They seem humorous because of the exhuberant amount of swearing and the sarcastic way that Chris pokes fun at things which he doesnt believe in, or things he thinks are the downfall of society and so forth. I dont really know what else to say except if you like punk, you should have this CD. It is the first oftwo full lengths that they have done. But dont worry, November 7th 2000 is the release date of Todays Empires, Tomorrows Ashes!!! Yeah, so go buy this because it is really good. This has got to get 94/100 Best Songs(Showdown, Stick The Fucking Flag Up Your Goddam Ass You Sonofabitch, and This Might Be Satire) Review By Dave Norman |
