CD Review for Longfellow-And So On...
When I first heard Longfellow I though ...eh... but now I totally dig these guys. I find their music quite diverse, but they started the CD off in a fashion I quite liked. Antropomorphism Is A Silly Deceit kicks off the album with a really good new school melodic punk song. It has a damn catchy intro guitar riff, and the rest of the song follows in the same aspect. After that, well, it is kind of hard to explain because these songs are so original and they don't really sound like anyone. The singer has a really cool voice (and he seems really educated because he has some really cool lyrics) that he can elevate to many different levels. It's kinda deep but he can hold it high when he wants to. Sometimes the vocals are louder than everything else and drown out the guitars, a recording mistake I guess, but it isn't noticable very often. The guitars are relatively good, but sometimes I just don't enjoy them. I'm talking about only two or three minutes on the whole CD, but it just doesn't seem to fit it right. Don't get me wrong, this is a really good CD, and I expect the next record to be killer, but for now this CD is just a little above average. Oh wait! I almost forgot to talk about one of the greatest songs ever, track 7- Scooter, is by far the best song on the CD. The lyrics are quite possibly the best I've heard (it's about standing up to darkness and it incorporates some really cool literary devices) backed by wicked vocals, an amazing bassline and good guitars. I'll post it so take a listen, it is the slowest song on the album, but it is so freakin good!!!
This will get a 86/100 Best Songs(Anthropormorphism Is A Silly Deceit, Scooter, Knife Hits, and Throats To You) |
