(B) What does a project plan consist?

Project plan is a formal road map document which decides how project executes and how is the project controlled. A project plan should answer the following questions as shown in figure ‘Project Plan’.

Why: - Why does the project exists first at place?. What is the problem of the customer, why is he funding the project?.

What: - What are the major product/deliverables from the project. For instance source, test plans, design documents etc.

Who: - Who will be involved in the project and what task will they be working on.

When: - When will the project start and when will it finish.

Note: - The above points are on a very generic level.  For instance why can be a short description of the project, what will be your WBS (read more about WBS in the coming sections) plan, who will be a allocation of resources to the task and when will be a simple GANTT chart or any chart which depicts the schedule of the project. The whole point is that the above points should be covered in a project plan.
