KDKA has hired Gabrielle DeRose from the CBS affiliate in Altoona to replace Jacque Smith on its weekend newscasts. She will start Jan. 28 and her first anchor appearance alongside Don Cannon will be Feb. 3.

Gabrielle DeRose is the main anchor of 10 NEWS AT FIVE and co-anchors 10 NEWS AT SIX and 10 NEWS AT ELEVEN.

She's been in the television news business for 11 years. She spent her first year as a Master Control Operator for WATM-TV in Johnstown. She also anchored and produced a news magazine show, voiced commercials, and hosted several telethons for the ABC affiliate.

DeRose joined WTAJ-TV in January of 1990. She began her career at 10 NEWS as a part-time reporter. Over the years she served as a reporter, producer and anchor. She anchored the Weekend, Morning and Noon news before becoming the Primary Anchor in December of 1994. Her reporting duties also included several years as a consumer reporter.

Gabrielle attended Penn State University. She graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, and a minor in Psychology. She keeps her ties to the College of Communications by serving on the Alumni Board of Directors.

While at home, Gabrielle is a fitness enthusiast. She enjoys running, lifting, cycling, swimming, tennis and dancing.

Gabrielle loves the TV news business, saying, "It's an honor to inform people of what's happening in their world."
