| Universal Soldier:The Return (1999) Cast:Jean-Claude Van Damme,Michael Jai White,Bill Goldberg,Kiana Tom Jean-Claude Van Damme returns in this belated and unnecessary sequel which ranks as one of his worst if not the nadir of his less than steller career. This time he plays a bionic soldier who takes on an army of universal soldiers who are bent on world domination, Van Damme saves the world but is powerless to save this embarrassing sequel. Indeed as brainless and idiotic as some of Van Damme's movies are, the dividing point in which determines what makes them watchable is how much inventiveness is presented in the actionscenes, unfortunately Universal Soldier:The Return is a mindless excercise in violence with a very low degree of style. The first one did it(Much) better and without the star pairing or energy the predecessor contained, Universal Soldier:The Return emerges as awful as one would expect from a late 90's Van Damme actioner.
