| Ulterior Motives (1992) Cast:Thomas Ian Griffith,Mary Page Keller,Toshiro Obata A journalist and a private eye probe an attack on a Japanese tycoon and find out more than they bargained for. Good acting and some suspense make this low budget mystery well worth a look, especially for fans of Griffith. Even though it looks like an action movie Ulterior Motives is not.It's more or less an intellegent mystery and although action movie fans will be disappointed that there isn't much action It still remains better than anything Thomas Ian Griffith has ever done. However the only mortal flaw with this movie is the first 20 minutes, it's slow and I don't know if those looking for wall to wall action will be impressed by the lethargic pace set by the first 20 minutes, however those that keep an open mind will find quite a rewarding movie that delivers well staged actionscenes, tons of suspenseful moments, and a powerhouse ending. Even though it looks somewhat sleazy, It actually isn't, this is a stylish and well made movie that delivers nail biting suspense, where as other thrillers are a so heavy-handed that they end up becoming so ludicrious they become self parodies,Ulterior Motives is at least three or four cuts above the average thriller put out today.
