| True Lies(1994) Cast:Arnold Schwarzenegger,Jamie Lee Curtis,Tom Arnold,Bill Paxton,Charlton Heston Arnie stars as a spy who single handedly takes on terrorists with his partner played by Tom Arnold.Jamie Lee Curtis plays Schwarzenegger's wife who gets thrown into the mix of things. I was actually slightly disappointed with this Cameron and Schwarzenegger combo, which certainly has it's moments of enjoyability but has too much of an overblown plot which makes the movie feel a little stupider. Plus it contains too much length that Cameron's pace can't overcome. my other problem with the film is how Jamie Lee Curtis is forced to degrade herself for really no reason. It's a very out of place scene and it badly gels with the straight forward plot of Schwarzenegger battling terrorists. Plus Heston is wasted as the boss to Schwarzenegger, infact he deserved much more screen time then given. So yes, I was certainly disappointed with this movie but that's not to say it doesn't have it's merits, some of the actionscenes are indeed thrilling and the movie features some immensely exciting moments but most of the problems of the film can't be ignored such as the overall overblown approach, sexist subplot as well as the waste of Heston. So when I walked out of theaters, I found myself somewhat cheated by the overall stupidity found here. Unlike the 80's style stupid Schwarzenegger movie, this one lacks any type of campy fun that those contained..D.James Cameron **1/2 |
