They Live (1988)

Cast:Roddy Piper,Keith David,Meg Foster

This is without a doubt not only the best movie Roddy Piper has made BUT the best movie that a professional wrestler has ever done (Admittedly saying very little)

This thought provoking, entertaining and over the top throw back of the paranoia films that came out in the 50's is first rate exploitation that not only makes for a good time, it makes you think!  John Carpenter helmed this movie and made the movie very interesting with a story that revolves around aliens who have siezed control of corporate america and the only ones who can see through the subliminal messages is with sunglasses, of course Carpenter does have his excesses  as he has Roddy Piper and Keith David in a fight for 12 minutes! Roddy Piper deserves some credit as the hero. This is a guy who actually has some acting talent, of course he's no Robert DeNiro but he's no Hulk Hogan either.

Piper's casting really makes this movie because the part needs a larger than life hero who actually is willing to go all out for the part,
They Live benefits from his humor as well as his ability to throw himself into the action, Keith David and Meg Foster are also good, but this is Roddy Piper's movie. Especially since he made the words "I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, I'm all of out bubble gum" Indeed the idea itself that corporate america being run by aliens enslaving the middle class is still true today. Also interestingly The Matrix borrowed alot from this movie in it's general ideas. D.John Carpenter ***1/2
