Submerged (2005)

Cast:Steven Seagal, Gary Daniels,Vinnie Jones

Steven Seagal stars as an imprisoned mercenary who is given a clean slate as well as a hundred grand to take out a terrorist who is has perfected the art of mind control, along the way Seagal finds an enemy in Gary Daniels a soldier turned evil by mind control although unfortunately this fight is not pumped up as it should, instead the movie is a boring variation on the typical Seagal movie.

Steven Seagal's movies have become genres of their own, with each bad movie comes another one subsequently, this is frustating if one is a fan of Steven Seagal, while I was a casual fan to his early work, nothing that he's done lately has truly impressed me,
Submerged is no different.  Unlike Into The Sun which was fairly enjoyable (although flawed) it constantly kept Seagal in motion. Of course what I was really hyped about was the fightscene between Seagal and Daniels, I must admit I was pretty excited watching these martial arts greats have a go at it, but then the fightscene is directed so confusingly that the fightscene just looks like a series of two anonymous guys beating each other senseless, never is it prompted as a truly epic fight it's just a quick mini-fight that has unbelievably bad editing.  Is Steven Seagal too old to actually do martial arts anymore?  If so he may want to throw in the title since his actionscenes depend heavily on stuntmen and quick editing techniques.  If one enjoys Seagal movies, this one is slightly more watchable than Out For A Kill or Out Of Reach, because at least it has some action but let's face it, if this is the best he can do, he should retire. More disturbing is how bad his batting average has been with straight to video movies. He has exactly two decent straight to video movies compared to 7 absoluately dreadful ones.  Which is like always strinking out and only having two singles the rest of the time.  Some entertainment does come from a few bloody deaths in the film but let's face it this is all very dull stuff. My only observation left is that Steven Seagal seems to have been dubbed by another actor, which indicates that the minium of effort went into this sub-par effort. D.Anthony Hickcox*
