| Streets Of Fire (1984) Cast:Michael Pare,Diane Lane,Amy Madigan,,Willem Dafoe,Rick Moranis Michael Pare exploded onto the scene with this very enjoyable actioner which I will best sum it up the way Director Walter Hill summed it up "The Leader of the Pack snatches the Queen of the Hop and Soldier Boy comes home to do something about it." In other words a mercenary saves his rockstar girlfriend from a group of bikers, in anycase it's a great movie worth checking out. Streets Of Fire is indeed a cult classic one that a lot of people look back on in the 80's and smile upon, for good reason too, because Streets Of Fire isn't just about the action which could easily substitute for any Michael Pare actioner after this, but what makes this one stand out is the beautiful visual style Walter Hill gives to the picture, back when he was making good movies Hill could only churn out gold. And although Streets Of Fire doesn't match Hill's brilliance of Hard Times and Johnny Handsome, Streets Of Fire comes close. Only a really groan-inducing ending with Pare and Lane pervent Streets Of Fire from getting a full fledged four star rating. Still it's still a great movie that gets by on style alone, even if the plot has no meat to it. Sadly Pare's career bottomed out after this. D.Walter Hill ***1/2 |
