| Sister Streetfighter (1977) Cast:Sue Shiomi, Sonny Chiba This alleged sequel to the series finds Sue Shiomi teaming up with Sonny Chiba to rescue her brother from Japanese terrorists (or something?) who have kidnapped her James Bond-like brother in this tiresome martial arts fest that would be fun if the action sequences were staged better and if the villains were more intimidating. Sue Shiomi works extremely well in this role she does have the hotness factor and the tough screen presence to work in the role, and Sonny Chiba likewise is great (as usual) but Chiba has hardly any screen time (And Shiomi and Chiba aren't brother and sister in this movie.) In fact this movie has nothing to do with the series. However the main problem here is that the movie as a stand alone is quite dull. The action sequences are mediocre and pale in comparison to the series standards, the story is all over the map and the villains aren't explained very well. It's the weakest sequel of the series and just a very weak movie in general. Only die hard Chiba, Shiomi and kung fu fans will find anything worthwhile and this is guaranteed to disappoint them as well. . D.Kazuhiko Yamaghuchi*1/2 |
