Sanctimony (2000)

Cast:Casper Van Dien, Michael Pare, Eric Roberts, Jennifer Rubin, Catherine Oxenberg

Casper Van Dien stars as a yuppie serial killer who is backlashing all the emptiness of his yuppie world, (The details are awfully sketchy)  and it's up to Michael Pare and Jennifer Rubin to stop him before he kills more in this amusing thriller.

I must admit that this is my favorite Uwe Boll film, because it's actually pretty fun. Sure the movie is crap and is a dreary serial killer thriller that wouldn't pass muster on the Lifetime channel but it's still amusing in how over the top it is and it's because of this I commend Uwe Boll.  People have called Uwe Boll the modern Ed Wood and it's not hard not to agree, although Wood made hilariously bad movies Uwe Boll generally makes unwatchable crap.
Sanctimony is Uwe Boll's most enjoyable movie because his misdirecting and his willingness to go over the top contributes to one of the campiest serial killer thrillers ever made. Infact I'm tempted to give this 2 guttenbergs!

The main laughs come from Van Dien who simply shouldn't be cast as a serial killer,  it's obvious that Michael Pare would've been a better choice but then we wouldn't had the pleasure of seeing Van Dien trying to ape Christian Bale from
Amerian Psycho.  Michael Pare gives one of his most wooden performances and Eric Roberts seems generally embarrassed to be here. The one good performance comes from Jennifer Rubin and even so her character is not that very good.  Who writes this stuff and actually thinks it's good?  I mean Rubin's plan is to seduce Van Dien into giving himself up and yet she never gets back up, even by her partner Michael Pare! Say what. However that's not quite as ridiculous as the final act.

Casper Van Dien has gone insane so he breaks up with his girlfriend, however the fact that she still invites him to her wedding and that she chooses to marry someone else rather than tell everyone the weddings off is one of the funniest things the movie has in it's plot.  Oh but Van Dien goes in with pistols blazing and of course raises the bodycount, oh and he also for some reason makes sure to not leave finger prints on his gun even though he just slit a guy's throat on television. Unbelievable.
Sanctimony is one of those few lines of films that is a horrible failure, one of such spectactular badness it actually becomes good.  I would like to say that Uwe Boll is a worthless director but if he continues to make laughable crapola like this, he maybe worth his salt as the worst director of all time.  If Uwe Boll is indeed considered the Ed Wood of our time 30 years from now, this one will definitely be up there as the one film people love in the camp market, especially since this one doesn't even need 30 years to age into a funny movie.  Without a doubt the greatest acheivement of Uwe Boll's career, Sanctimony is absoluately genius.
