| Remo Williams:The Adventure Begins... (1985) Cast:Fred Ward, Joel Grey,Wilford Brimley,Kate Mulgrew,Patrick Kilpatrick,Michael Pataki Fred Ward plays the title character, a cop who is converted to special section of the government in which he would assassinate all that would pose a great threat to the U.S government, his first assignment is a corrupt tycoon, hijinks ensue. Remo Williams:The Adventure Begins has become somewhat of a cult hit in that it did very little business when it was released theatrically, that being said though this is a rather well made and quite enjoyable actionflick. The Statue Of Liberty stunt is edge of your seat material and Fred Ward reminds one a lot of Charles Bronson in that he can play a well defined tight-lipped hero. Remo Williams is perfect for the action fan in that the story is silly but not enough to grate the nerves, the action is slick and exciting and the chemistry between Grey and Ward is a joy to behold. That's not saying that all is good, the movie is infact a very big mess but it remains watchable through out and even though the climax is a slight disappointment (Nothing could outdo the Statue Of Liberty setpiece) Remo Williams is quite an enjoyable actioner which offers something different from the norm. Remo Williams is well worth a look (again) for the followers of the genre. D.Guy Hamilton *** |
