| Phase IV (2003) Cast:Dean Cain, Brian Bosworth Dean Cain stars as a college student (Who's studying to become a journalist) who learns that there is indeed a cure for AIDS and that the government will do anything to keep him silent, meaning sending a cold blooded assassin (Brian Bosworth, who is quite good in the role.) to silence him and anyone who knows too much. Phase IV is indeed a surprise because I only rented it to see what the "Boz" was up to, indeed this maybe the comeback movie that he needs because to date he's now signed on to star in The Longest Yard remake due in theaters soon, could there be a Bosworth comeback on the way? In anycase it's Brian Bosworth's performance that makes this movie quite so compelling, on the field he was a character and in a bad-ass part like this he fits it like a glove. Cain is also surprisingly good for a change, he actually strains to give a credible performance and pulls it off, the only flaw here is that it registers no real aftertaste after it ends, it's sort of like Dean Cain himself in that it tries hard to be good but only emerges as adequate. Certainly i'm not complaining, since that in comparison with Steven Seagal's recent outings, Phase IV stands head and shoulders above. Indeed it's not perfect but it's a lot better then you would expect from a teaming of Clark Kent and Stone Cold. D.Bryan Goeres *** |
