Outside The Law (1994)

Cast:David Bradley, Anna Thomson,Ashley Laurence

David Bradley abandons his usual martial arts warrior approach to star in this erotic thriller which finds Bradley as a cop who falls for Anna Thompson, who indeed maybe a murderer and maybe manipulating him in order to get herself of the suspect list in this typical
Basic Instinct rip off, which remains somewhat watchable until it's utterly ridiculous climax.

The main reason why this erotic thriller fails is because it doesn't have enough spark to light a cigar. Indeed David Bradley actually isn't too shabby as the cop who falls head over heals for the wrong woman.  Bradley has never played characters with that much intellegence and therefore his alcoholic cop is well suited to his wooden presence. It's really Anna Thomson who was seriously miscast.  Indeed one can't think of a better choice for an erotic thriller lead than the undeniably sexy Ashley Laurence.  She was one of the things that made the erotic thriller
Triplecross, well, erotic. In that movie she and Michael Pare had a weird chemistry that made the movie believable and intriguing.  However playing second fiddle to the far less attractive Anna Thomson is one of the film's biggest plot holes.  I don't think there is anyone on this planet who would chooseThomson over Laurence.  Especially since Laurence is younger, has a cuter face and has more curves.  Thomson, mind you, isn't hideous looking, just too old to be messing up the sheets with David Bradley. Plus she is too proper looking (Goody Two-Shoes) to inspire the same type of erotic spark Sharon Stone brought to Basic Instinct. (She obviously was chosen due to her resemblence to Stone.)

However that aside
Outside Of The Law has all the cliches you would expect for  this type of movie. You have the sex-scenes which feel more urgent and forced then they do erotic. A very confusing subplot which fails to make sense or come to a close in a satisfying manner. Plus no real motivation on the killer's part. Which is of course due to the fact that we never learn much about the killer and the identity of said killer is easy to spot miles away. Indeed the only point of interest came from wondering why David Bradley would choose Anna Thomson over Ashley Laurence. Oh and wondering why Boaz Davidson ripped off Number One Fan for his would be twist ending. D.Boaz Davidson**
