Operation Cobra (1997)

Cast:Don "The Dragon" Wilson,Evan J. Lurie

The prolific director of some solid Michael Dudikoff movies takes a detour  here with this lame Don"The Dragon" Wilson flick which is even more of an entertainment dud than his Don's 1996 disaster
Virtual Combat this time  Wilson is surrounded by thesps that are even worse then him, the lame plot involves Don in India as a secret agent who looks for a kidnapped woman basicly you've seen this type of movie before and certainly better handled than here.

My favorite part of
Operation Cobra was when Wilson escapes his hotel room, when a mysterous man throws in a deadly cobra in his room, Don's attempt to escape the room is the only part in the movie that actually becomes mildly diverting and suspenseful, plus it's creative. The only aspect of the movie which shows imagination, now if only Ray upped up the creativity and we could've had something here, something other than a snooze inducing actioner with lame action sequences.  Strangely the story behind the film is more interesting than anything else in the movie, it seems that a lot of the actors and crew actually got some kind of parasite, which tore up Evan J. Lurie's chest pretty bad. What happened? The story is sketchy but this could be a good indicator why one doesn't see Evan J. Lurie much anymore in the movies.  Moving away from this sad topic,Operation Cobra is mindless schmaltz served up with little style or substance. It's story is so mindless and mundane that at times the movie fades into your furniture and you forget your watching a movie. It's that bland. The production values are better than most of Ray's movies, but nobody knows how to serve up this dross quite like Freddy.  D.Fred Olen Ray *
