| John Woo's Once A Thief (1996) Cast:Ivan Sergei,Sandrine Holt,Michael Wong John Woo hits a new low with this made for TV stinker based on a remake of his original movie. Which involves the soap opera nature of thieves who tangle in a love triangle while taking on a triad at the same time, the best moments of this disaster come from Michael Wong, who is known as one of the worst actors in Hong Kong cinema, I think right there says it all about this awful made for TV movie. Terrible acting and a some truly lame and unconvincing action scenes make John Woo's first venture into a television pilot unbearable to sit through. I think the main problem with the bomb is that Woo had to scale it back and cater to the Canadian television producers who are known to censoring petty things such as professional wrestling. Certainly John Woo can do better and has, indeed his next venture into the television medium would yield the enjoyable Blackjack, the problem here is that this stuff is just so utterly unwatchable with it's nightmarishly soap opera angle and the terrible acting from the cast. Indeed for anyone who wants to see just how terrible Woo's Hollywood debut could've been, can look forward to this bomb. Of course why you would want to remains without a reasonable answer. This easily remains John Woo's worst movie to date. Easily. D.John Woo * |
