| No Retreat No Surrender (1986) Cast:Kurt McKinney,Jean-Claude Van Damme Some nifty action scenes at the end of the movie save NRNS from being a full BOMB. What we end up with is a cheesy Karate Kid clone that lacks a convincing lead (McKinney seems to have stepped of a bad TV show) The plot is silly beyond words. McKinney trains to knock a ogre around in the ring and gets help when Bruce Lee's ghost trains him. Really this is just an awful movie, Jean-Claude Van Damme fans, don't get excited this movie has him in the flick for like 13 minutes and he is in the very beginning and at the end to fight. He gives without a doubt the best performance of the cast so, that should tell you about the acting, There is a person in particular I know that thinks this movie represents a comeback for martial arts movies, well of course this remark is not only false it's moronic for this movie made 4 million dollars in the B.O and everybody that saw it,at least back in 86 thought the movie stunk. Basicly this is not a movie that deserves to be rented or seen on TV, for although Van Damme (thankfully) doesn't show his butt in this movie, No Retreat No Surrender shows it's butt to the audience, so what can the hapless audience do? Kick, and VERY HARD. Just awful. * |
