| Night Of The Warrior (1991) Cast:Lorenzo Lamas,Anthonny Geary,Kathleen Kinmont,Arlene Dahl,James Lew Lorenzo Lamas stars as a photographer wannabe, who has been fighting to pay off his newly owned bar, unfortunately for Lamas his coach (Geary) wants Lamas to fight an Asian fighter, however when Lamas says no, Geary takes steps to make life difficult for Lamas, and threatens the closest ones to Lamas , his mother (Dahl) and his girlfriend (Kinmont) At this stage of his career, Lamas was in his prime, and although the movie was distributed from a schlocky "Vidmark" (now Trimark) complete with cheesy music from the credits, Night of The Warrior shapes up to be an entertaining fight flick, although it's not for everyone, there's a sense of real style and the movie is fun despite a low budget and some heavy handed melodrama. The script written by Thomas Ian Griffith, is rather flawed however, with tons of screentime taken up with dances in the sleazy bar Lamas owns, it slows the movie down, just when it gains momentum, and for that, we are forced to subtract half a star from the final rating, even though the actionscenes are crisp and the directing stylish, with lots of lights, give it all a stylish approach but the movie has no plot to really back any of it up, and therefore one can say that Night Of The Warrior doesn't quite come off as well as it should. However those flaws aside, Night Of The Warrior is worth a look for fans of the genre. D.Rafal Zeilinski **1/2 |
