| Mr. Nice Guy (1998) Cast:Jackie Chan,Richard Norton,Sammo Hung,Gabrielle Fritzpatrick Highly enjoyable action yarn has Chan as a gourmet chef on the run from mobsters when he is accidently thrown in the mix between a reporter and a drug operation gone bad. Chan tries to keep a cool head but when these mobsters snatch Chan's girlfriend, it's no mr. nice guy and Chan seeks out the bad guys to rescue his damsel in distress. This movie is certainly watchable, time never drags but for some reason this effort is just a tad too silly and the whole joke of making Chan a chef isn't a very good joke, especially when it's stretched out beyond it's limits. Still Chan has that effortless charm and his martial arts scenes are among some of his most exciting. It's just that the story is silly and the mobsters too cartoonish to really connect with the audiences. Although the running joke with Norton being a villain of quite anal retentive standard causes some admittedly amusing moments. Especially since he's willing to kick you ass for not taking your shoes off in his house.. D.Sammo Hung **1/2 |
