Mission Of Death (1999)

Cast:Michael Pare, Linda Hoffman

A cop who witnessed his family's murder at the hands of mobsters, seeks vengeance when he's kicked off the force for his excessive force issues as well as psychological issues in this well made actioner which satisfies the action crowd as well as delivering a good sub-plot which explores Pare's  issues which give this more texture.

While indeed derivative,
Mission Of Death at least tries to offer a character driven drama which at times works surprisingly well, yes the action itself is routine and at times so telegraphed that one cannot look past the flaw of the script which while above average, relies to heavily on cliche to really reach it potentional. Still a late 90's Michael Pare movie with lots of potentional is hard to come by especially compared to duds like Strip Search and Bad Moon. Mission Of Death is more interesting then most straight to video actioners, especially the standard fare put out by Nu Image, but as a whole this is superior in most respects thanks to the story which looks into the psychological effects of Pare's troubled character. Pare in the role is quite effective adding a sense humanity to his typically wooden presence. D.Yossi Wein ***
