| Men Of War (1994) Cast:Dolph Lundgren,B.D Wong,Charlotte Lewis,Trevor Goddard,Tiny Lister Jr.,Perry Lang Dolph Lundgren stars as a mercenary who is financed by a group of greedy businessmen to convince islanders to move out and let them mine the island for its resources, however Lundgren is swayed to the cause, stays and defends the islanders from the new replacement mercenaries in this fun action outing which has lots of flair and generally exciting Lundgren vehicle. A lot of fans liked Dolph Lundgren's work in the routine Army Of One, however where as that one had lots of dull stretches (Mainly in the first half) Men Of War benefits greatly with having old school style heroics combined with a script which takes time to actually set up the characters before actually showing the carnage fans expect. Men Of War emerges as a vast improvement over the Lundgren starred bomb Pentathlon, which likewise went for the drama but emerged as shallow, trite and tedious. There are a couple of slow stretches in Men Of War but the movie remains consistently entertaining through out and for the most part is worth renting. Also its hard not to enjoy Trevor Goddard's over the top heroics which provide more fun outside of the action. Indeed the sequence between Goddard and the businessmen is hilarious and its meant to be. Also B.D Wong offers more comic relief. Basically Men Of War is one of Lundgren's best movies, one that has the most crossover appeal for even non-fans of Lundgren should enjoy this.D.Perry Lang *** |
