Iron Eagle II (1988)

Cast:Louis Gossett Jr,Mark Humprey, Maury Chaykin, Alan Scarfe,Sharon Brandon

This time Gossett Jr. returns as Chappy Sinclair who is promoted to General and is sent to take over command of both American and Russian pilots who will run an air strike on the middle east in this moronic yet on-par sequel which once again benefits from some good action and a good performance from Louis Gossett Jr.

The novelty here is that America and Russia are joining forces and the movie tries to get would be mileage from the overall rocky rivalry between the Russians and Americans. Being an American who remembers the cold war only slightly (I was only 8 at the end of the 80's) I always find cold war movies of Reagan's time amusing.
Iron Eagle II has it's moments of hilariously cheesy moments, mainly anytime our would be hero Humprey exchanges wit with one of his would be rivals.  Iron Eagle II also has many ludicrious plot threads, such as the Governement not wanting the program of unity between Russians and America to succeed, which of course brings up the question, why bother in the first place?  Especially during the cold war, when both sides would never even consider doing something like this.  However despite a few moments of fun, Iron Eagle II suffers from slow pacing which of course starts of well and doesn't become very engrossing until the climax.  Sure inbetween we have a few riveting moments (Mostly amusing kinds) and Gossett is really cool in the role, most of the way though this movie is far too slow.  As for how it compares to it's predecessor it's about on par, so if you found the first to be a guilty pleasure (Come on, you know who you are!) you'll most likely find this enjoyable as well.
