I Come In Peace (1990)

Cast:Dolph Lundgren,Brian Benben,Mattous Hues,Betsy Brantley, Michael J.Pollard

A drug dealer  from outer space comes to earth to harvest people's endorphins and it's up to Dolph and his FBI agent partner played by Brian Benben to send him packing, however how can Lundgren and Benben compare when the Alien has CDs which go for the throat, a gun that has the force of a rocket launcher and seemingly invincible to earthbound weapons?  I Come In Peace emerges as one of the better buddy/cop movies which of course says little but Baxley knows how to keep your interest through out and the movie is very entertaining through out.

Dolph Lundgren was always # 5 in the long line of actionstars. (Behind Van Damme and Seagal) however with
I Come In Peace, he easily had the best B.movie actioner of the year, infact come to think of it only Schwarzenegger's Total Recall was better which of course says little since he was competing against Hard To Kill,Death Warrant Delta Force 2 and American Ninja 4) . The reason why I Come In Peace works so well is because of it's imaginative premise that actually is based on a good idea, how many drug dealers from outerspace movies have been made?  Of course the reason why the movie earns a mere recommendation rather then glowing praise as a must see, is because I for one would have liked to see more done with some of the plot threads.

Indeed the space cop subplot is never even throught about and so we learn little about our villain and the spacecop.  Another aspect is that Lundgren and Benben run around fighting druglords who of course lack the threat of the main villains here.  Likewise it would have been nice had Baxley shown some interest in pumping up the bad alien with a backstory and indeed what planet he's from but it's a cop movie and a Dolph Lundgren cop movie at that. Still
I Come In Peace doesn't disappoint on what is promises to accomplish. It features lots of explosions (Very well done, may I add), suspenseful action scenes conducted with flair and amusing one liners between Lundgren and Benben.  So on this front I Come In Peace satisfies and remains generally superior to most Sci-Fi/Action hybrids.  D.Craig Baxley ***
