Foxy Brown (1974)

Cast:Pam Grier,Antonio Fargas, Peter Brown, Kathryne Loder,Terry Carter,Sid Haig

Pam Grier stars as Foxy Brown,  a tough chick who goes undercover in the underworld to avenge her cop boyfriend's death who has been ratted out by Foxy's  gambler brother Link (Fargas),  however discovered by the mob, she is sold into slavery to two creepy rednecks and she manages to kill them and get vengeance in poetic style.

The film is almost identical to Coffy, except with the novelty of Grier castrate guys and have Grier go up against a woman.  Foxy Brown gets mean toward the finale,  but the build up prior to such is actually more enjoyable than the film's predictable vengeance near the end.  Indeed Grier's action sequence where she helps her brother out as well as the subplot surrounding the local vigilantes are far more interesting than the film's vengeance angle.  That being said the film delivers solely what you would expect which is merely a sleazy fight fest with Grier in top form.  There's lots of nudity, cat-fights (Though sans razorblades in the hair), and of course an ending where death is considered to merciful of a fate for the bad guy.  The film does have some long stretches and overall I'd pick Coffy as the better of the two,  but that being said the film works almost as well and is worth seeing, especially for fans of blaxploitation.
