| Fist of The North Star (1994) Cast:Gary Daniels,Malcom McDowell,Costas Mandylor,Chris Penn,Clint Howard,Downtown Julie Brown Gary Daniels is a lone wolf hero who must fight to avenge the North star when his father is executed by the dictator of the land (Mandylor) in this incomprehensible yet watchable remake of the anime classic. Surprisingly when someone sees Gary Daniels on the cover of a movie, one is promised the blessing of asskicking, however the actionscenes here aren't very breath taking, standard but not anything to hold your breath over, The real reason to watch this movie is for the atmosphere, it's a great atmosphere and it feels like a world like this exists. However the real flaw here is the plot which is so complicated it doesn't make any sense, things happen but nothing backs it up making the movie somewhat lethargic, However to be fair Fist Of The North Star has it's moments. So what we end up with is a mediocre take on a classic that pales in comparison. This could have been an easy three star rated movie but since the actionscenes themselves are somewhat mediocre, I can't give this one over 2 stars, and secondly what is the director thinking with having Chris Penn wearing a very silly looking helmet? It looks goofy and it's another minus against the film's favor. Basicly with Fist of The North Star it's a movie to go in with low expectations, it's not a bad movie but what could have made for a blissfully entertaining actioner is sadly turned into a near miss.
