| Empire City (1991) Cast:Michael Pare, Mary Mara, Beau Starr,Robin Christopher Michael Pare stars as cop on trial who tells his side of the story on how he got involved with a murder suspect and how one thing led to another in this tedious clunker which has one major thing that prevents it from being any good, it's a tv pilot. When one examines this sub-par movie, one can't help but realize this didn't become a successful TV show, mainly because the story, if you can call it that is a cliche powerhouse with nothing that surprises and little that excites. Indeed the fact that there is nothing but (PG styled) sex scenes only hints at the desperation at hand here. Michael Pare and Mary Mara do give better than the material deserves performances but their relationship comes across as an afterthought, abandoned instead by a completely predictable affair between Pare and Christopher. Never once is their really any suspense, or for that matter any story to wind up the thrills, it's all predictable white bread nonsense that is so familiar it fades from memory before one even finishes watching it.
