| The Donor (1995) Cast:Jeff Wincott, Michelle Johnson Jeff Wincott stars as a high class stuntman who is a real lady's man. However after picking up a girl, he wakes up only to be relieved of one of his kidneys this of course disrupts his life as he becomes a victim and his only way in dealing with his problem is finding the people responsible in this deadly dull thriller. Jeff Wincott has always been one of the best martial artists in the straight to video market, so having him run around and not even put a punch in is a critical flaw to this already far fetched thriller. Indeed where as action breaks up ridiculous stories, we are left to grasp the overall incompetence of such a thriller. There are so many stupid moments and would be political commentary that I for one, lost what little interest the story had. Indeed in the directing of Damien Lee, the movie moves at such a slow clip it could be running backwards. This is a movie that labors to describe what could easily be implied. Plus the would be twists can be seen miles away, the plot threads have many holes in it and generally the movie fails to generate much interest. This is one of Wincott's lamer efforts and here he gives an unlikable performance and Michelle Johnson plays a ridiculous part so serious one wonders what this was supposed to be. I hated this movie because it simply bored me to tears. Damien Lee can't even craft an action picture with lots of action (Moving Target) let alone a movie like this that needs involving characters, imaginative plot threads and a script which makes sense. The movie is just so lifeless that it needs an excitement donor. Of course what do you expect from one of the worst directors in the market? D.Damien Lee * |
