Dead Heat (1988)

Cast:Treat Williams, Joe Piscopo, Darren McGavin,Vincent Price

After being killed in action a cop is brought back to life thanks to a special machine in which only he now stands a chance against the zombie crooks who are causing havoc in this bizarre yet strangely entertaining actioner which hits a new tone of strange when Williams and Piscopo are attacked by sausages in a deli.

I must admit, the first time I saw this I didn't know what to make of this movie.
Dead Heat is so weird and completely surreal that one is truly astonished by what takes place, it's one of those movies where common sense and logic don't apply, the science is laughable and yet despite everything else Dead Heat tries so hard to be a good horror/action/comedy that I myself was completely shell shocked by the whole bizarre event. Goldblatt does direct some good actionscenes, Williams is always an interesting lead and Piscopo is actually funnier than usual but this is one of those movies that I can't help but wonder what did they try to accomplish here? This is one of those movies you find yourself watching and wondering what the hell is going on. I guess maybe that's the point, maybe this was intended as a joke, or maybe it was a horror movie, or maybe it was action. Who knows? The bottomline is that Dead Heat tries so hard to accomplish it's task that it becomes quite interesting, so interesting I could almost recommend it had it actually established what it was trying to do.
