| The Crow (1994) Cast:Brandon Lee,Ernie Hudson,David Patrick Kelly,Michael Wincott,Rochelle Davis,Angel David. Lee plays a murdered rock star who comes back to life to avenge the death of him and his girlfriend by killing off the thugs who did it so his soul can rest in peace. Lee died on the set of The Crow but even so he delivers the best performance of his career and Proyas' style manages to make the movie quite breathtaking to watch even though at it's heart its a revenge story. When Brandon Lee died on the set of The Crow, rumors started going off about a family curse and the like. Indeed there is an eerie conincidence to Bruce Lee's Game Of Death, where Bruce Lee's movie star character is killed by a man who loads a real bullet into a the blank gun. That being said The Crow emerges as the best movie Brandon Lee ever made. The dingy style and rock music blasting on the soundtrack gives this an interestingly heavy metal goth look which often times makes Lee's antics even more sinister. Of course the action is well staged and the movie has moments of pure brillance. One such scene is when Brandon Lee has a showdown with David Patrick Kelly, who speaks poetry about how abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is. This is about as powerful as comicbook movies get and although the ending between Lee and Wincott feels somewhat unnecessary, most of the way through The Crow works due to it's visual style and well written story which manages to rise above its revenge themes and establish a haunting tale.
