| The Capitol Conspiracy (1999) Cast:Don "The Dragon" Wilson,Barbara Steele,Rick Dean,Alexander Keith Don "The Dragon" Wilson stars as Jared a government agent who figures out he was part of "The Capitol Conspiracy" a program which kidnapped kids and brainwashed them and used them for sinister purposes, however years later Wilson starts remembering and everyone else who also shared his experience keeps dying left and right, now it's up to Wilson to save himself and expose the conspiracy once and for all in this unusually energetic and ambitous Don "The Dragon" Wilson actioner. The Capitol Conspiracy is one of the few Don "The Dragon" Wilson movies that actually is more than just one of his brainless features. Indeed this story is written and fleshed out to it's full potentional and the extreme lengths that Barbara Steele (In an excellent turn) goes to keep this secret operation a, well, secret is one of the more suspenseful stories to come along from Roger Corman's chain of movies. Indeed this has a lot in common with Corman's equally effective Suspect Device which features a paranoid hero and mysterous people out to get him. Wilson works well in the role, giving one of his better performances and delivering the required athletics needed to make this movie work. However most of the movie's verve comes from the paranoid story and the ruthless villains who come out of nowhere to kill our hero. As Fred Olen Ray directed movies go, this is one of his better efforts as he directs the movie with a lot of energy and manages to make the movie move with effective force. Indeed if Ray would continue to select projects this ambitous, Ray might earn some respect. As it stands though The Capitol Conspiracy is well worth watching and should impress non-genre fans as well.D.Fred Olen Ray *** |
