| The Cannonball Run II (1984) Cast:Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Jackie Chan, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra Slightly better sequel finds Reynolds and DeLuise once again racing across the country in this mindless though at least somewhat improved sequel which features Frank Sinatra which remains one of the film's few pluses. This is a case of good news and bad news, the good news is that of course Cannonball Run II is slightly better than it's embarrassing predecessor, the bad news is that it's only slightly better. It's basicly the same crap as before but at least this time the action is better choreographed and better directed. Which of course doesn't say much since the first was really inept in this department, also none of the acting is very good and the movie is so tired it moves with the grace of a crippled slug. Basicly if you like seeing dumb jerks crashing their dumb cars into other things you may find a lot here to enjoy because it at least has that appeal, however anyone looking for something remotely funny will be well advised to steer clear. Although Sinatra provides a few (though not nearly enough) amusing moments. D.Hal Needham* |
