| Broken Arrow (1996) Cast:John Travolta,Christian Slater,Howie Long,Delroy Lindo,Smantha Mathis John Travolta stars Vic Deakins a soldier who rips off a pair of nuclear missles to use on the U.S government, however one lone soldier can make a difference and Riley Hale (Slater) is just that man in this better then average thriller. What prevents Broken Arrow from being a standard entry in a (very) crowded genre of Die Hard clones are John Woo's well staged action scenes that are really energetically staged (Especially the gun fight in the mine) But Broken Arrow unfortunately is rather dumb and unexciting at times due to it's predictability and the fact that there are only two gun fights in the entire movie. Also Broken Arrow also suffers from a lightweight script and wooden performances from Slater, Long and Mathis, essentially this would be a total wash out had it not had Woo's touches of suspense and excitement. In the end I guess Broken Arrow works well enough as an entertaining enough hour and a half of "in the ear out the other" type of actioner, it's just that it fails to match Woo's other HK styled actioners. .D.John Woo*** |
